Betty (Spinden) Ralston 99, of Fullerton, California, died Dec. 29, 2020.

She was born June 7, 1921. She was the daughter of Elnora Sophia (Borschel) and Charles Frederick Spinden. She was the youngest of eight children.

She graduated from West Liberty High School in 1938 and when West Liberty celebrated their centennial year in 1938, her class was featured as the graduating class in the Centennial book which included the history of West Liberty.

She attended Coe College and then transferred to the University of Iowa where she graduated with a major in English and a minor in music. She moved to California after college where she met and married James (Jim) Ralston on Nov. 25, 1950, a WWII veteran, who passed away on Aug. 24, 1987.

She was a member of the First Church, Christ Scientist in Fullerton since 1968, serving in many capacities over the years. She loved to garden, sing, play piano and was an avid reader. The biggest smiles were seen on her face when spending time with her family (and maybe while enjoying a chocolate fudge sundae).

She is survived by her daughter Julie (Ross) Ravin, who reside in Manhattan Beach, CA. Local survivors include a niece, Linda Maylone and great-niece, Jeanie Thurston.

Services were held in private on April 30, 2021 at the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside CA.
