The West Liberty High School Baseball team was beat in both of their contests this week in the middle of a five game losing skid.

The Comets of oach Troy Wulf started their week with a makeup game against Monticello early in the week. The Panthers drew first blood in the home half of the first inning, pushing across a run.

The Comets answered in their half of the second inning, tying the score at one a piece. The Panthers added to their total, scoring three in the third. The Comets lone run in the fifth proved to not be enough, as the Panthers coasted to a 7-2 victory.

Ryker Dangle led the Comets at the plate, going one-for-two with an RBI on the evening. Caleb Wulf took to the mound for the Comets. In 5 innings of work, the junior struck out four in allowing six hits and two earned runs.

The Comets ended their week Thursday with a trip to Camanche. Both teams pushed across runs in the first inning with the Comets recording one and the Indians two. The teams held each other scoreless until the fifth before the Indians pushed across three more. The Comets lone run in the seventh ultimately decided the matchup, at a 5-2 score line.

Collin Cassady recorded the lone RBI for the Comets. The pitching duo of Drake Collins and Chance Thrasher fanned six batters and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.

Post season play to begin
