Kile Motorsports Racing Events is hosting a big event geared to get area kids revved up and ready for school. Combining the Liberty 100 race night and a long-standing tradition that went to the wayside – Back To School Night – there are many reasons to go to the races this weekend.
Kile Motorsports Racing Events will have a full show with six classes of cars this Saturday night, featuring the Chown Appliance Sport Compacts (4 cylinder), West Liberty Auto Parts – Car Quest Hobby Stocks, Aupp Automotive Sport Modifieds, Ag Services and Products Stock Cars, JR’s Car and Truck Repair Modifieds, and the Pit Crew BBQ Late Models. This event will include hot laps, qualifying heat events, and features for each class. The feature events combined will total 100 laps around the big half-mile track. All classes will run IMCA rules except for the Pit Crew BBQ Late Models which will follow Malvern Banks Super Late Model Series rules.
Kids will have the spotlight throughout the evening as well. Kids up to 18 years of age will be provided a bag of school supplies at entry while supplies last and there will be dozens of prize drawings for items include packed backpacks, t-shirts, hats, toys, scooters, bicycles, and tablets. Students will simply need to sign up at a booth upon entry to be entered to win any of the prizes and listen for their number to be called through the event. Contributors of school supplies and prizes include the West Liberty Police Department, Live Laugh Love Child Care (Muscatine), Eastern Iowa Area Community College, Lugo’s Gourmet Popcorn & Lemonade, Whitney’s Wings, Jeff’s Grocery, the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Fred’s Feed & Supply, Cardinal Sign & Graphics, Victory Lane (Clarence), Barb & Mike Purdy and several West Liberty Raceway race teams.
During intermission, there will be a nickel scramble for school kids to participate in. Over $1,000 has been contributed and turned into nickel coins, which will then be spread onto the front stretch of the racetrack. Kids will be lined up by age and then race to collect as many nickels as possible. Participants get to take home what they collect so everyone is a winner.
The nickel scramble was an annual event at the West Liberty Raceway, so organizers were happy to bring it back. This activity will be possible thanks to Mac’s Trailers (Muscatine), Hy-Vee Muscatine, Terra Products (Iowa City, Nichols), and several West Liberty Raceway race teams.
The Lil’ Racer Car Club will be present and play a vital role in the distribution of school supplies and prizes with the help of the 2022 Muscatine County Fair Queen, Morgan Hodge, and several other volunteers.
The races this Saturday, August 6 will start with hot laps at 6 p.m. and heats at 6:30 p.m. Admission will be charged for twelve and older. Children 12 and younger are free with a paid adult. The grandstand opens at 5 p.m. and concessions will be available for purchase.
