Atalissa Day this Saturday

A day of family fun will happen in Atalissa this weekend.

Atalissa Day will take place Saturday, June 24. Some of the activities being held this year include a steak dinner prepared by the Muscatine County Cattleman Association, kids tractor pull, a parade, a car show and the Lundy family talking about the history of Atalissa.

The Lundy Family will also be the grand marshal for the parade at 4 p.m.

“The Lundy Family is the oldest family we remember being in town,” Atalissa Mayor Angie Dickey said. “There is a street named after them.”

The Lundy family no longer lives in Iowa, she said. They will be coming from Michigan for the festivities and are looking forward to it.

Dickey is also looking forward to the event.

“I look forward to all the people that show up and getting to talk to them,” she said. “Atalissa doesn’t have a meeting place so it will be nice to see everyone in town.”

The highlight of the day’s events is the fireworks at 9:30 p.m., Atalissa Fire Chief Mike Smock said.

All the proceeds raised at Atalissa Day goes to the fire department, he added.

“We buy pagers, fire hoses, turnout gear, etc.,” Smock said.

For more information about Atalissa Day you can check the fire department’s website at www.atalissafire.org or on their Facebook page. A full list of the day’s events is in their ad on this page of The Index.
