Atalissa Day raises $20,000

Even with the rainy weather conditions for Atalissa Day, held Saturday, June 25, the fundraising goal was surpassed.

“All of the bills are not in yet for Atalissa Day but we are estimating about $20,000 in profit,” said Atalissa Day volunteer and resident Karen Feddersen.

The goal was to raise between $10,000 and $15,000 toward a new tanker truck for the Atalissa Fire Department.

“A used tanker truck runs between $300,000 and $500,000,” Feddersen added. “We are about halfway to our goal but will be on the lookout for one.”

Feddersen assisted the Atalissa Fire Department with submitting an application for a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist with the cost of a new tanker truck, Feddersen said.

Every event scheduled for Atalissa Day went on as planned except the car show, which will be held Saturday, July 9.

“The town was full of people who came with coolers for the fireworks,” Feddersen said. “It was a cool display.”

Feddersen has been involved with Atalissa Day since 2017.

“I continue to help with Atalissa Day and fire department events because I believe the fire department does a very important job,” she said. “Also, my boyfriend is part of the fire department.”

Mike Smock is the Atalissa Fire Chief. He has a lived in Atalissa since 1971. He has a long history of helping with this event.

“I have helped with Atalissa Day since 1976 as a kid,” Smock said. “I continue to help because I am a fireman/EMT (emergency medical technician) and the fire department relies on fundraisers to generate enough money to purchase things.”
