He is the embodiment of self-discovery, resilience, and the indomitable human spirit. Recently, Eric created a captivating documentary called "The Power of a Hand".
This documentary takes us through his personal odyssey. It is also a beacon of hope for countless individuals navigating their own paths and their hero's journey.
At the heart of Yao's documentary lies a profound message— conquer your fears. "The fears you don’t face become your limits," Yao asserts.
He discussed with me the sentiment that sometimes we see our vulnerabilities as a type of weakness, but if we metamorphose that energy, our possibilities are endless.

Yao's filmmaking odyssey was no small feat, spanning three months of intense production. Eric was armed with just an iPhone and a borrowed tripod.
He immersed himself in the art of storytelling, deftly weaving together the threads of his narrative. "I learned that you don’t necessarily need expensive equipment to produce good quality films," Yao reflects. "Creativity is the most important aspect of a good film."
For Yao, the decision to embark on this cinematic journey was deeply personal. Since he was in 7th grade, he harbored aspirations of crafting his own documentary, but faced myriad challenges along the way.
It was not until his participation in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition that he found the impetus to persevere.
"This documentary represents a lifelong endeavor, filled with immense personal significance," Yao shares. "It's more than just a project; it's a testament to my journey and a source of my confidence."
At its core, "The Power of a Hand" is based on the transformative power of resilience. Through his journey of building prosthetic limbs out of LEGOS, Yao illuminates the path toward self-acceptance and empowerment.
"Don’t let your flaws define who you truly are," he urges, encapsulating the essence of the message of this film. By sharing his story on a global scale, Yao seeks to uplift and empower others who are facing similar challenges, fostering hope and possibility in their lives.

Desde que estaba en séptimo grado, albergaba aspiraciones de crear su propio documental, pero enfrentó innumerables desafíos en el camino.
