The West Liberty football team beat the Anamosa Raiders 36 to 14 in the Comets' homecoming game Sept. 22.

It was an unseasonably hot night with the game starting temperature well into the 80s.

"We definitely knew we were going to face another team that could pass the ball well," West Liberty Head Coach Jason Iske said. "We focused on that this week after it kind of bit us in the butt last week.”

Last week the Comets barely pulled off a 52-50 win over Northeast after their opponents made an incredible run, putting 30 points on the board in the last nine minutes.

This week, with the varsity football team facing off against Anamosa on their own turf, the Comets were able to keep the pressure up in all facets of the game.

"It was a total team effort. Our defensive line did a good job of keeping pressure on them all night,” said Coach Iske. “Our defensive line did a good job of keeping him (the Anamosa quarterback) in the pocket because he's the type of quarterback that likes to roll out."

Having reached the halfway point in the regular season, the Comets now have four wins and one loss.

Their only loss came in the season opener against West Branch, but since then West Liberty has strung together a win streak against Highland, Mid-Prairie, Northeast and Anamosa.
