LB Raymond Eaton, 99

LB Raymond Eaton, 99, of Wilton, Iowa, formerly of Iowa City and West Liberty, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at Simpson Memorial Home.

LB was born in Muscatine County May 9, 1918, to Willie "Hobart" and Donie (Milburn) Eaton. He graduated from Springdale High School in 1937. LB farmed South of West Liberty for many years. He later worked at the University of Iowa Library. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He was chosen to serve on General MacArthur's honor guard in the Philippines. 

He was a member of the Wilton American Legion Post #584. He was well known for riding his bike around Wilton accumulating over 9000 miles. He played racquetball and handball until age 80, defeating much younger opponents. He played in the Iowa Senior Games and ran the BIX 7 several times. LB married Luetta Ann Vogel on September 28, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. 

LB is survived by his children: Lana Gray of Davenport, Gilbert (Darlene) Eaton of Conifer, CO, Barbara (Jess) Brenner of Wilton, Linda Eaton of Iowa City and Roger (Fran) Eaton of Manchaca, TX, 11 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, 4 great- great- grandchildren and Charlotte Suma who was like a daughter and nephew Glenn Larry Eaton of Tipton.

He was preceded in death by his wife on January 5, 2012, 2 infant grandchildren, grandson Gilbert Lee Eaton and brother Glenn Eaton.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton.

Interment will take place at Oakridge Cemetery in West Liberty with Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Wilton American Legion. Memorial and services are being handled by the Bentley Funeral Home.
