Emily Geertz and Stephanie Dengler were elected to the West Liberty School Community School Board on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

This is according to the unofficial results from the election held at the Muscatine County Fairgrounds Activity Center, Nichols City Hall and Atalissa City Hall.

This means the school board, five members in all, will consist of President Chris Martin, David Millage, Lynne Sasmazer, Emily Geertz and Stephanie Dengler.

There were three candidate vying for two seats, with Geertz and Josa Zacarias looking to get re-elected to the board.

In the end, newcomer Stephanie Dengler came in first. She received 179 total votes, or 38 percent of the total votes cast.

Meanwhile, Geertz came in second, receiving 154 votes, or 33 percent. Given the results, Geertz will now return for a second term a member of the board.

In third place was incumbent Jose Zacarias, who received 133 votes, or 28 percent of the vote. There were also seven write-in votes.

The school board works with Business Manager Brietta Collier, who was hired in 2016, as well as Dr. Joseph Potts, recently selected as the Superintendent of WLCSD.
