Norv and Mary Coblentz · Wednesday, June 7, 2017
The West Liberty Comets baseball team lost on the road to Camanche 10-0 in six innings.

"We made mistakes," West Liberty Head Coach Troy Wulf said. "They hit the ball, and when they put the ball in play, we made mistakes at the end of the game. They were aggressive on the bases, and that's how it ended up. We've got to string at-bats together. The lineup is in flux right now with Hartman and Bryce Esmoil (out with injuries).

"The first inning wasn't good, and the last inning wasn't good. The middle four innings, we played decent ball, and A.J. (Lenz)pitched well."

With two outs in the top of the first, Justis Dengler reached on an error. A fly out to left field left him on base.

In the bottom of the first, Camanche scored four runs. The first batter singled to left field and was caught stealing with a throw from catcher Jackson Gingerich to shortstop J. Dengler.

Dengler singled to lead off the fourth inning. The next two batters struck out and flied out. Dengler was caught stealing to end the inning.

The first Camanche batter flied out to Joe Baker in right field. The next batter reached on an error and stole a base. Lenz got two strikeouts to end the inning.

Chown got a walk to start the fifth inning. With two outs, Esmoil singled to right field. The next batter flied out to end the half-inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, the first batter singled to right field and was picked off for the first out. A walk, a double, and another walk loaded the bases, but Lenz got two strikeouts to end the threat.

The Comets loaded the bases in the top of the sixth but came up empty. Dengler reached on an error with one out. With two outs, Noah Feldman singled to left field. Chown reached on a dropped third strike to load the bases. A groundout ended the inning.

"It started on the mound for us," Camanche Head Coach Darryl Cochran said. "Evan (Hall) threw a heck of a game for us. He was throwing strikes and being consistent, and we were making the routine plays.

"I'm real happy with the way we played."
