The West Liberty softball team scored two runs in the first inning but didn't score again until the seventh. They fell 5-3 to the Camanche Indians on the road May 30.

"They made all the plays, we didn't," West Liberty Head Coach Dave Reynolds said. "(We) went dormant for a few innings and waited for the last inning. Defensively, we didn't play our best game. We'll get better. I've got things to work on tomorrow."

Macy Akers got a one-out infield single and stole second base to get the Comets started in the first. A pop out was followed by a two-run homer by Austyn Crees. Haddie Anderson singled, but two runners were left on base after a groundout.

In the bottom of the first, a lead-off single to center field was followed by a pop out to Anderson at second base, a groundout to Emma Martin in the circle, and a fly out to Janey Gingerich in right field to end the inning.

The Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead. They started the inning with three singles to load the bases.

The next batter flied out, but the runners were held on base. A walk scored a run. A fielder's choice got the out at home, and the bases remained full. A double scored three runs. A groundout to Anderson at second ended the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Akers got a one-out base on balls. A pop out and a ground out ended the Comet half of the inning.

Camanche scored one run in the bottom of the fifth. Akers came in to pitch. A double, a fly out, and another double scored the run. The next batter grounded out, then the runner was caught in a rundown between bases. Akers made the out.

Anderson led off the sixth with a single to center field. She took second base on an error but was caught trying to steal third base. Skylar Wendt reached on the same error. The next batter lined out to the pitcher. The next batter popped out to first base.

The Indians scored two more runs in the bottom half to take a 7-2 lead. The first batter walked and was sacrificed to second base.

A throwing error put runners at second and third. A passed ball scored a run. A base on balls put runners at the corners. A single to right field scored a run. The next batter popped out, and Austyn Crees tagged a runner out trying to steal home to end the inning.

The Comets needed to score five in the top of the seventh. They scored two. Akers singled with two outs. Breana Thurness singled to put runners at first and third. Crees walked to load the bases. A single by Anderson scored Akers and Thurness. The next batter grounded out to first base to end the game with a 7-4 score.

"(West Liberty) came out a little hot," Camanche Head Coach Kevin Rolling said. "We allowed that one big hit and put ourselves behind the eight ball a little bit. One thing this team's got is a little grit.
