The West Liberty boys track and field team will send eight events to the state track and field meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines May 18-20.

The state-qualifying meet was at Mount Pleasant May 11.

"Qualifying eight events is very remarkable," West Liberty Co-head Coach Marc Hauschildt said. "We are excited to return five athletes (Noah Feldman, Seth Feldman, Michael Hartman, Tanner Iske, and Armando Revelez) to the state meet and bring seven athletes for the first time (Justis Dengler, Talen Dengler, Jackson Gingerich, A.J. Lenz, Austin McMichael, Coy Ruess, and Nathan Schemmel.

"Our goal is to score team points in two to four events, most likely the 100m dash, high jump, 4x100m relay, and 4x200m relay."

T. Iske was second in the 100m dash to qualify for state. Eli Gingerich finished the race in 13.06.

In the 400m hurdles race, Hartman was second with a time of 57.91 to qualify for the state meet.

The 4x100 team of Hartman, S. Feldman, N. Feldman, and T. Iske finished their race in 44.45 for third place, just .03 off second place. They qualified for the state meet by virtue of their time.

The same athletes ran the 4x200 in 1:32.37 for second place and a trip to state.

The 4x400 team of T. Iske, J. Dengler, S. Feldman, and N. Feldman won their event and will go to state. Their time was 3:33.31.

The distance medley team of A.J. Lenz, Jackson Gingerich, Nathan Schemmel, and Coy Ruess finished in fourth place with a time of 3:49.67. "The 1600m distance medley team just squeaked in with the 23rd seed," Hauschildt said. "All the runners are underclassmen, so they are far from reaching their potential."

N. Feldman won the high jump and will head to state. He jumped 6-05 and is the fifth seed going into the state meet.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Hartman, Austin McMichael, S. Feldman, and Armando Revelez was second with a time of 1:01.19 and advance to the state meet.

Lenz and J. Gingerich will be alternates for the 4x100. J. Gingerich and J. Dengler will be alternates in the 4x200. Alternates in the 4x400 will be Schemmel and Ruess.

In the distance medley, alternates will be J. Dengler and T. Dengler. Alternates for the shuttle hurdle relay team will be Lenz and T. Dengler.

In the other dashes, Luis Melendez finished the 200m dash with a time of 26.04. Bryson Iske had a time of 27.45. Joe Kelly was fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 53.37, and Joe Baker was seventh in 59.31.

In the 800m run, Ruess placed third with a time of 2:10.51. Erick Estrada finished in 2:20.36.

McMichael ran the 110m hurdles race in 18.14 for fifth place.

The 4x800 team of Baker, Estrada, T. Dengler, and Cobain Polman placed fifth with a time of 10:27.70.

The sprint medley team of J. Gingerich, J. Dengler, Lenz, and Schemmel placed fifth in 1:42.87.

The distance medley team of Lenz, J. Gingerich, Schemmel and Ruess placed fourth with a time of 3:49.67.

Baker was sixth in the long jump, leaping 18-07.25.

Cobain Polman had a throw of 108-03.50 in the discus and put the shot 36-10.00.
