Comets compete in conference

The West Liberty boys' track and field team had a strong showing at the River Valley Conference meet in Bellevue May 4, finishing in sixth place with 63 points in a very tough conference meet.

"We are very pleased with getting in the top half of the conference," West Liberty Co-head Coach Marc Hauschildt said. "Most of the results were expected. Two unexpected finishes were Nathan Schemmel in the 400m dash and Michael Hartman in the 400m hurdles. I attribute both of those accomplishments to edging out Bellevue for sixth place. Had our throwers like Bryce Esmoil and Spencer Daufeldt been healthy, I feel confident that we would have moved up a place or two.

"We will definitely look forward to having them back next season. Noah Feldman is the only senior (of the finishers). We have a strong case for finishing in the top three in 2018."

Tanner Iske had a first-place finish in the 100m dash - 11.15. Jackson Gingerich finished in 12.43.

In the 200m dash, A.J. Lenz finished in 24.88.

Schemmel’s fourth-place finish in the 400m dash earned the Comets five points with a time of 53.92. Luis Melendez finished in 1:05.53.

Hartman finished the 400m hurdles in 58.71 for fourth place, earning five points for West Liberty.

N. Feldman was second in the high jump with a jump of 6-04.

In the shot put event, Cobain Polman put the shot 35-06.25. He had a throw of 94-08 in the discus.

In the shuttle hurdle relay race, Hartman, Austin McMichael, Seth Feldman, and Armando Revelez placed second with a time of 1:03.13.

The 4x100 team had a second-place finish in 44.81. Team members were Hartman, S. Feldman, N. Feldman, and Iske. Bryson Iske finished the 200m  dash in 27.95.

The same teammates won the 4x200 race in 32.81.
