Boys’ track takes second

The West Liberty boys' track and field team took second place at Wapello March 28 with 105 points. The team had seven first-place finishes, five second-place finishes, and four third-place finishes.

The Comets doubled-up in scoring in the 100m dash. Tanner Iske won the event with a time of 11.16. Michael Hartman finished in second place with a time of 11:47. Jackson Gingerich ran the race in 12.62.

Hartman was first in the 200m dash with a time of 23.78. Cobain Polman finished in 28.24, and Erick Estrada finished in 50.83.

Adrian Velez was the third-place finisher in the 400m dash with a time of 55.64. Luis Melendez finished in 1:06.30.

Coy Ruess finished in third place in the 800m run. His time was 2:15.60.

In the hurdles races, the Comets had two first-place finishes. Austin McMichael was first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.00.

In the 400m hurdles, Armando Revelez was first in 1:01.79. McMichael was fifth in 1:05.00. Austin Beaver finished the race in 1:10.16.

The Comets had two firsts in the field events. Bryce Esmoil was first in the discus with a throw of 138-10. Andy Lopez had a throw of 96-04.

Noah Feldman won the high jump with a jump of 6.05.

In the long jump, Bryson Iske had a jump of 15-07.50, and Ruben Renteria had a jump of 14-07.00

Esmoil put the shot 38-09.50 four third place. Cobain Polman put the shot 38-06.00 for fourth place. Andy Lopez put the shot 33-04.00.

The 4x200 team of Adrian Velez, T. Iske, Hartman, and N. Feldman won their event with a time of 1:34.17.

Velez, Revelez, N. Feldman, and J. Gingerich placed second in the 4x400 with a time of 3:45.92.

Also second was the 4x100 team of Seth Feldman, A.J. Lenz, Ruess, and Renteria. Their time was 48.36.

The 4x800 team of Ruess, Nathan Schemmel, Renteria, and Estrada was second. Their time was 9:17.63.

The sprint medley team of Ely Gingerich, Lenz, S. Feldman, and Justis Dengler was second in 1:45.20.

The distance medley team of E. Gingerich, Dengler, McMichael, and Schemmel placed third with a time of 4:13.12.

The Comets did some really good things at the Regina meet. "Tanner Iske won the 100m dash in 11.00 which puts him at 16th in the state overall and third in Class 3A," West Liberty Co-head Coach Marc Hauschild said.

"Coy Ruess had a personal record 2:12.87 in the 800m run. Austin McMichael had a personal record 16.82 in the 110 high hurdles after being sick two days before that. The 4x100 and 4x200 teams of Michael Hartman, Seth Feldman, Noah Feldman, and Tanner Iske won convincingly.

“The 4x800 team (Ruess, Nathan Schemme, Erick Estrada, and Ruben Renteria) had a season-best of 9:13.88. The shuttle hurdle (team of Hartman, McMichael, S. Feldman, and Armando Revelez) had a season best of 1:04.93. Joe Baker just missed winning the long jump by a half inch. He jumped 19-01.00. Bryce Esmoil had a season-best 142-08 in the discus."
