Track shows indoors

The West Liberty boys track and field team had a terrific showing at the River Valley Conference Indoor meet held at Cornell College March 23.

Although team scores were not kept, the team was rumored to have placed third overall.

"Placing so high gives us a lot of confidence moving forward," West Liberty Co-head Coach Marc Hauschild said.

The 4x200 relay team of Michael Hartman, Tanner Iske, Noah Feldman, and Joe Kelly "got first place (in 1:36.19) and beat Cascade's meet record set last year," Hauschild said.

The 4x400 team of N. Feldman, Joe Kelly, Adrian Velez, and T. Iske's "best time last year was 3:42.59," Hauschildt said. "Our time (at the RVC Indoor) waas 3:43.15. We should easily beat that time once the outdoor season starts."

The team placed third at the RVC Indoor. Another 4x400 team, Ely Gingerich, Jackson Gingerich, Justis Dengler, and Austin McMichael finished with a time of 3:54.60.

In the 4x800, Coy Ruess, Nathan Schemmel, Seth Feldman, and Erick Estrada finished with a time of 9:19.52.

In the distance races, Ruess was fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:15.68. Estrada finished in 2:36.93. Ruben Renteria finished the 1600m run in 5:28.41.

In the 60m hurdles, Armando Revelez finished in 9:42, and Austin McMichael finished in 9.51.

In the field events, Cobain Polman put the shot 38-05, and Andy Lopez put the shot 32-10.5. Renteria had a jump of 16-10.25 in the long jump. Bryson Iske ha a jump of 12-09 in the long jump.

Next, the West Liberty girls track and field team participated in seven events at the River Valley Conference Indoor meet March 23 at Cornell College.

"The girls are a work in progress," West Liberty Co-Head Coach Mike Czarnecki said. "Our main goal for the season is improving our times in all areas.

“As they continue to work hard and improve times, we will set up the best possible relay teams for us in each individual meet. We will get some better times as we go along with the outdoor meets with not as many tight turns or laps outside."

The Comets participated in two relays at the RVC Indoor. The 4x200 team of Yadisha Mendez, Alexis Partida, Reghan McNaul, and Emalie Burke finished in 2:01.76. The 4x400 team of Kate Schneider, McNaul, Burke, and Jimena Fierro finished in 4:53.85.

In the short-distance races, Mendez finished the 60m dash in 9.20, and Maddie Law finished in 10.88. Jaide Dalton ran the 200m dash in 31.22.

In the distance races, Fierro ran the 1500m run in 5:57.68.Nealy Martin-Thompson ran the 800m in 3:09.70.

In the field events, three Comets participated in the shot put event. Miranda McHugh put the shot 28-03, Elta Filerio put the shot 28-02.5, and Abby Jacques put the shot 22-01.
