Donald G. Wolbers, 87, of Bettendorf died on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf surrounded by loving family.

Don was born June 25, 1929, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of George and Betty Wolbers. He graduated from LeMars High School (Iowa), attended Westmar College (LeMars, Iowa), and graduated from Creighton University (Omaha, Nebraska) with his business and law degrees. He was a U.S. army veteran, serving in the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany. He worked for a law firm in Council Bluffs, Iowa before spending the rest of his career as a claims manager for Crocker Claims and AAA Motor Club of Iowa in Bettendorf.

On June 18, 1960, Don was united in marriage to the former Ramona Alvarez in Galesville, Wis. They have been blessed with 56 years of marriage. He was member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church since its inception. He and his wife volunteered as communion servers to the home-bound for many years. He loved the game of golf, and enjoyed bridge and bowling. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events throughout the years. He was a loyal, kind and loving man.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Mona; four children and their spouses, Sharon Wolbers, West Liberty, Iowa, Gary (Barb) Wolbers, Galesburg, Ill., Janine (Mitchell) Kelly, West Liberty, Iowa, Teresa Wolbers, Jesup, Iowa; six grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Carlburg, Claire Wolbers, and Shannon, Marissa, Molly and Joseph Kelly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dwight, sister Jean; and a granddaughter, Bridget.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 8 at St. John Vianney Church, 4097 18th Street, Bettendorf. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 7 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Genesis Oncology and Infusion Department, or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
