Edith M. Birkett, 99, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at the Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch.
Edith was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Springdale, Iowa the daughter of Axel and Karen M. Jensen. She was a graduate of West Branch High School. On January 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lindley Birkett in Moline, Illinois. Edith had been employed with NCS in Iowa City for many years.
She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Liberty, American Legion Auxiliary and for many years was a member of the bridge club. She enjoyed dancing, camping and the time she and Lindley spent in Phoenix.
Survivors include three daughters: Karen Birkett of Morning Sun, Iowa, Patricia (Jim) Kirby of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Donna (Craig) Maurer of West Liberty; six grandchildren: Laurie Dauber, Lisa and Tim Stull, Nicole and Edward Green, Timothy and JoAnn Maurer, Jenifer and Zach Weaver, Christopher and Tara Maurer; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren also survive. Her parents; husband Lindley; son William; grandson, Daniel; great-grandson; two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Liberty. Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
