Norma Boorn, 84, Muscatine

Norma Jean “Blondie” Boorn, 84, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, July 17, at the Lutheran Homes in Muscatine. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Muscatine. Pastor Mary Howell officiated the services. Casket bearers were John Bierman, Tanner Gandia, Dustin Werling, Travis Atkins, Jeff Klingaman and Rodney Kjell. Honorary casket bearers were Earl Denkman, Grant McConnaha, Tanner Gardner, Mike Denkman and Denny Anderson. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Norma was held 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 19, at the Geo M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Norma’s name. Norma Jean Holliday was born on Dec. 27, 1925, in Muscatine, the daughter of Alonzo Dale and Viola (Freyermuth) Holliday. On Sept. 18, 1943, Norma was united in marriage to John Boorn. Norma was the superintendent of the organized group of displays for the Muscatine County Fair and has participated in the fair for over 50 years. She was a member and the ladies aide for Spangler Chapel United Methodist Church. Norma was also a member of the Farm Bureau, the Red Barn Society and the Bloomington and Iowa State Grange, in which she was an officer in both organizations. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, doing chores on the farm, playing cards and having a house full of friends an family.

Norma will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Bierman of Moscow and Bonnie (Leroy) Atkins of Muscatine; six grandchildren, Jennifer Gandia, Valerie Kjell, Stacey Werling, Kellie Klingaman, John Bierman and Travis Atkins; 11 great-grandchildren, Lauren and Tanner Gandia, Gwen Atkins, Abby and Owen Kjell, Gina and Alex Prosser, Parker and Paige Werling, Dominic Mathis and Conner Bierman and her brother, Richard (Doris) Holliday of Muscatine.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1998.
