Gearing up for my first fair
by Lindsay Hoeppner, Living Lindsay · July 20, 2010

Around mid-April I began hearing how busy I was going to become as soon as West Liberty played host to the Muscatine County Fair.

Even more busy?

Are you kidding me?

How is that even possible?

Those were the only thoughts I could muster at the time.

Now, however, I understand.

Our annual pre-fair section was a tedious job in and of itself, and as I am sitting here writing this column on Tuesday, I can hardly imagine how I’m going to have time to run home and feed my cats, let alone breath this week.

My hunch, though, is that it will all be worth it.

So far it certainly has been.

Despite becoming extremely sweaty and a little sunburned during the parade and Picnic in the Park on Sunday, I had a blast.

I’m expecting the rest of the week to follow suit.

Please bear with me, though, as this is the first county fair I have ever covered for a newspaper.

I’m excited for the challenge, though, and look forward to seeing all of the 4-H and FFA kids show their animals, examining all of the exhibits, jamming out to the entertainment, watching my first truck and tractor pull and motocross race, cheering on the queen contestants, arm wrestling MarySue and marveling at the carnival rides, especially the ferris wheel.

See you at the fair!
