Dorothy Kostman, 85, Cedar Rapids Dorothy Aileen Kostman, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 9, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiwatha. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion. The Rev. Gregory Williamson officiated. The family greeted friends 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Starr and Sheila Kostman, both of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Derrick (Danielle) Starr of Marion and Daniel Starr of Cedar Rapids; sister, Martha (Merle Price) Sundberg of Cedar Rapids; two special cousins, Alvin (Ardella) Stemm and Elwood Stemm, both of Lone Tree; niece, Debra (Clayton) Foreman of Toddville; nephew, Larry Banks of West Liberty and special friends, Harry and Marti Glessner and Jim Estes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sheryl Ann and a sister, Doris Banks.
Dorothy was born Feb. 8, 1925, the daughter of Albert and Vella (Brandt) Stemm, in rural Lone Tree. For 25 plus years, she worked for Quaker Oats Company in the package department, retiring in 1992.
Dorothy enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, crafts, traveling, taking bus trips, sewing, baking and family gatherings. She also enjoyed country music, spending time with her family, especially with her grandsons and her cat, Star. Dorothy was loved and will be missed by all, especially her smile.
