Comet baseball looks to win in district play by Lindsay Hoeppner · July 07, 2010 The West Liberty High School baseball squad is looking to improve as it heads into district play.
After losing a close battle against Durant last Monday, June 28, the Comets were looking to redeem themselves against the Wildcats in a doubleheader Thursday, July 1.
West Liberty failed to improve, however, and fell 14-4 and 11-1 in five innings.
Friday, July 2, the Comets hosted West Branch and fell 10-8. Despite the loss, coach Troy Wulf said it was a hard fought game.
“I thought we played OK against West Branch,” he said. “We fought back and tied in the bottom of the sixth, then had an ugly top of the seventh.”
Monday, July 5, West Liberty faced off against a tough North Cedar squad, and fell 10-0 in five innings.
“We gave up some big innings again with errors and walks,” Wulf said. “That’s kind of been the story of our season. We hang in then give up one big inning that does us in.”
The Comets sit 3-17 overall and 3-16 in the Cedar Valley Conference heading into the team’s last week of regular season play.
West Liberty was scheduled to host Calamus-Wheatland Tuesday, July 6 and hosts North Cedar in a doubleheader today (Thursday, July 8) before entering district play against Louisa-Muscatine at Wilton Saturday, July 10. |
