Holiday Open House a success
by Lindsay Hoeppner · November 24, 2009

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect for my first Holiday Open House.

That being said, I had a blast!

While I knew it was a priority for me to remain in the Index office for at least a little while before I embarked on my photographic journey, I couldn’t wait to get out, experience the nice weather and take part in all of the fun activities.

My first stop was the horse drawn trolley ride. I had never been on one before, and I knew if there was one thing I had to try, that was it.

It was quite the experience.

The horses remained calm and collected throughout the downtown area, but as we approached the railroad tracks to make a stop at Prusha Auto Parts, the equines had had enough.

The two men from the Tipton Lions Club kept the trolley under control, though, even as the mammals started neighing and attempting to walk off the side of the road.

Nevertheless, we got turned around, and headed back downtown. Everyone remained in the trolley, and no one was injured.

As I stepped off the trolley, I began meandering around downtown, stopping to take photos here and there.

West Liberty Foods Market was certainly the most bustling business of the day.

No wonder, Santa was there.

I resisted my inner urges and only took photos of children sitting on his lap. I didn’t think he wanted to know what a 22-year-old wanted for Christmas.

I ended the day by stopping into West Liberty State Bank so I could hear West Liberty High School’s musical talents.

Coming from a musical background, I had been looking forward to the show all day.

And, I was definitely impressed.

The vocal harmony group certainly grabbed my attention with a performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” straight out of the TV show “Glee.” (Haven’t seen it, yet? I’m ashamed.)

The high school jazz band finished out the hourlong showcase with three exciting pieces. Congratulations, soloists! I know it’s not easy to stand up and play alone, but each of you were so composed and did an outstanding job!

Thank you everyone who stopped in the Index office, and congratulations to all of the winners throughout the day.

I can’t wait until the next Holiday Open House!
